Safari Overview

The 18 Day Uganda Gorilla Tour & Savannah Safari is an all-inclusive great Uganda Safari that takes you on a dreamy experience of Africa. There’s no where else in Africa you’ll get an experience like what this safari package offers and this is because you get to enjoy a jungle gorilla safari and a savannah game drive on the same trip.

The Uganda Gorilla & Savannah Safari takes you to Mt. Elgon, renowned for the scenic beauty of its cliffs, waterfalls, caves, and unique flora. You will visit Jinja to see the spot where the Mighty River Nile starts the 6,700 Km journey through Sudan and Egypt to the Mediterranean Sea. Jinja is also the hot spot for adventures that include white water rafting, bungee jumping and quad biking.

This safari will take you to the magnificent Murchison Falls where the Mighty River Nile forces its way into a seven meter crevice and plunges 40 meters below. The view is spectacular and the variety of wildlife and birds in this national park is awesome! You will visit Kibale Forest National Park, the primate capital of the world famous for its wild but habituated chimpanzee, other primates and colourful birds. You will have game drives and Boat cruise at Queen Elizabeth National Park to see the incredible endowment of this park in terms of wildlife birds and scenery. The climax of this safari will be an encounter with the elusive Mountain Gorillas in the famous Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park, an experience of a lifetime! You will explore Lake Bunyonyi “the Switzerland of Uganda” which is dotted with 20 islands protruding from the lake for canoe rides and to hike the steep terraced hills encircling the lake for a scenic view of the beautiful surroundings whose birdlife is prolific. The safari does not miss out on Lake Mburo National Park for wild nature walks; the only park in Uganda where a wildlife safari can be conducted on foot

Day 1: Arrival 

You will be welcomed by a representative of Broveny Safaris who will transfer you to your hotel in Kampala/ Entebbe for an overnight. Depending on the time of arrival, our guide will take you on a city tour for an exciting introduction to the capital. Visit some interesting and historical sites, including the Namugongo Martyrs Shrine, the Uganda Museum, and of course the African Craft Village. We also advise you to have some money changed to Uganda shillings.

Day 2: Transfer to Jinja

After breakfast, you will transfer to Jinja to visit the source of the Nile and to enjoy some of the adventurous activities whose options include white water rafting, jet boating, horse riding, mountain biking, quad biking or bungee jumping. En-route, you will have a stopover at the Equator where you will have an opportunity to stand in two hemispheres at the same time and take some photos. Along the way, you will enjoy the scenic views of Mabira tropical forest, zip-linnning in Mabira and Visit the source of the Nile.

Day 3: Explore Jinja

You will, after breakfast, go for the adventurous white water rafting on the Nile River. The rafting begins at 9am with a comprehensive briefing and being fitted with the special rafting gear. The rafting is done on an 18 kilometer stretch of the Nile River and no prior experience of rafting is required. The first few rapids are of low grade (1, 2) to build the confidence of the participants before guiding them gradually into the more challenging grades. A total of eight major rapids are rafted to maximize the adrenaline rush of this adventure.

Day 4: Transfer to Mbale

You will after an early breakfast drive eastwards to Mt. Elgon. You will have a stopover at Ssezibwa Falls for a cultural feel and continue to Mbale town located on the foothills of Mt. Elgon. En-route you will drive past tea and sugarcane plantations, lush green forests and grasslands, colorful fruits beautifully displayed by the roadsides and enjoy a varied display of landscapes and local communities. You will have lunch in Mbale, and proceed to Sipi village located between beautiful hills and waterfalls

Day 5: Explore Mt.Elgon

You will have breakfast and thereafter hike to the Mt. Elgon Forest Exploration Center for a briefing on the activities of the day. There are two hike option areas to choose from. The popular forest exploration center trail loop site makes one enjoy the cool mist at Chebonet falls, Kapkwai cave, the talking tree, and a spectacular viewpoint of the low land areas below. The other is the long ‘arm’ of Mt. Elgon that bears the Wanale trails loop with vertical cliffs of the ridge and several cascading waterfalls that make a very scenic drive. These two-day hike areas have short walk trails ranging between 3km and 11km that offer an excellent opportunity to experience Mt. Elgon’s unique plants and wildlife in a short period. In both, you will enjoy views of regenerating forests, fields of colorful flowers, extensive stands of bamboo, and a variety of birds and wild animals

Day 6: Transfer to Murchison Falls National park

You will have an early breakfast and drive to Murchison Falls National Park via the Eastern route of Soroti - Lira where you will have the opportunity to view true African landscapes.

Day 7: Game Drives and Boat cruise, Hike to the top of the falls

You will be having an early morning game drive. So be up around 6:00 am and have a quick cup of coffee or tea. By 6:30 am, you should be out to enjoy great game viewings of wildlife and maybe you may be one of the lucky ones to get some action displayed right before your very eyes. After the game drive, you will return to the lodge for some heavy breakfast and relax at the lodge.

Later in the afternoon after you have had your lunch, you will head for the boat cruise on Victoria Nile to view the aquatic wild like Crocodiles and hippos with lots of birds on the River bank. This Launch trip will be concluded with a hike to the Top of the falls so you can get to see the spectacular falls in all angles

Day 8: Transfer to Kibale Forest National Park

You will be driving from Murchison Falls National Park after your breakfast to Southwestern Uganda through the Albertine Escarpment of the great Western Rift Valley. The drive will take you through Hoima to the very colorful and beautiful town of Fort Portal the capital of the Toro. Upon your arrival, check into your booked safari Lodge for dinner and overnight at your booked accommodation.

Day 9: Chimpanzee tracking and nature walk

This will be quite an early morning, you will get up and have your early morning breakfast. You will then head to the park offices with your packed lunch for a briefing before your tracking activity. When you locate the Chimps, you will spend an hour with them before returning to the lodge. This is also an amazing activity for bird watchers because Kibale is one of the few National Parks that is blessed with a wide variety of different bird species. 

In the Afternoon, you will head out for a nature walk to the bigodi swamp.

Day 10: Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park

Immediately after breakfast, check out f already and be on your way to Queen Elizabeth National Park. You will arrive in the park just in time for lunch at Mweya Safari Lodge and you will then check into your booked safari lodge, freshen up or relax.

Later in the evening, you will head out for an evening game drive in the Kasenyi sector. The drive should take up to 3 hours and you will return to the lodge for your dinner and overnight

Day 11: Game Drives and lunch boat cruise on kazinga channel

The day begins early with early morning breakfast then set off for an early morning game drive along Kasenyi and Queens Mile makes visitors encounter excellent opportunities to see Lions, Leopards, Giant Forest Hogs, Cape Buffaloes, Elephants, Defassa Waterbucks, Uganda Kobs, Topi and Bush bucks and many more. Return to the lodge for breakfast and lunch, after lunch enjoy the boat cruise along the Kazinga Channel, a natural channel between Lake Edward and Lake George with abundant bird life will be sighted, elephants, buffaloes and hundreds of hippos that are cooling off at the shores and this launch cruise will be one of the highlights of your Uganda wildlife safari to Queen Elizabeth. Dinner and over night..

Day 12: Game drive to Ishasa sector and transfer to Bwindi

You will have an early morning game drive after your breakfast around 6:30 am, a good chance to see lots of wildlife as most animals will be getting up from their slumber to look for food. You will return to your lodge for lunch and after your time of relaxation, you will check out of your safari lodge and drive to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park where you will arrive in the late evening and check in to your booked accommodation for dinner and overnight.

Day 13: Gorilla trekking experience

Early morning at 6am, you will prepare yourself and have breakfast before gathering at the park headquarters at 7am with your packed lunch to be briefed about the dos and don’ts while with the gorillas. You will then proceed to trek the gorillas in the forest at 8:30am, an experience that will take 2-6 hours depending on the movement of the apes on the day. After spending an hour with the gorillas, descend back to the lodge for refreshment. In the evening, you may go for nature walk or cultural walk to the Batwa communities for Batwa trail experience that leads you to the lives of the ancient people of the forest
